Guide to Student areas in Leeds

For students who are new to Leeds it may be a little daunting to select the area in which you choose to live. Here is quick guide for students which may help in deciding on the area most suitable for you.

Headingley2

Headingley is well known as a student area of Leeds. Not only does it have numerous bars, restaurants, and shops it is also within walking distance of Leeds Beckett University in Headingley and both Universities in the City Centre. There is also the Leeds Rhino’s Rugby Stadium and Yorkshire’s Cricket Stadium on your door step so for any budding fans you could be just a stones throw away from any big games. Headingley is often more popular with Headingley campus students simply due to the proximity however it is also still popular with City Centre students due to the homely residential atmosphere as well as great bus and train links into the city.

Hyde Park is extremely popular for Leeds University students as the park borders the University and therefore you can reach your lectures in a matter of minutes when crossing the park. Although there are less bars and restaurants than Headingley there are still lots of places to hang out such as The Royal Park Pub and Brudenell Social Club which hosts up and coming bands. Hyde Park Picture House is also a great feature as it shows a range of old and new films in a more than quirky setting.

Burley/Kirkstall

Burley and Kirkstall are a little less student focussed and are often more popular with post grads and professionals. Nonetheless you will still find a number of students these areas as the prices are little lower than Headingley and Hyde Park and the areas have a lot to offer. There is newly opened retail park which has a Pure Gym, Outfit, M&S and many other shops. There are also other gyms within walking distance including Virgin Active which is also in the same development as Vue Cinema, Control Night Club and restaurants such as Nandos and many others. If you choose this area you will not be at a loss for things to do however they are a little further out and possibly not within walking distance of the Universities depending on how keen of a walker you are.  Again there are great links to the City Centre and buses will usually take approximately 10-15 minutes.
