Christmas is a magical time in Leeds due to the abundance of festive entertainment provided, therefore being a student here during this period is fantastic and great fun!

If you aren’t too sure what’s on in Leeds this Christmas or how to celebrate the festivities, we have put together some ideas to get you in the spirit!

German Market

The Leeds German Market has been open since the 10th of November and will stay right up until the 24th of December, which gives you plenty of time to go and check it out for yourself! The Christkindelmarkt at Millennium Square is one of the most established German Christmas Markets in the UK, with traditional wooden stalls perfect for food and gifts, festive greenery, a Christmas carousel ride and twinkling colourful lights all creating a unique continental festive atmosphere. It is perfect to get in the Christmas spirit!

Fun Fair

Next to the market there is a fun fair which is perfect for all ages! If you and your friends are seeking some fun and thrills then this fun fair is a great opportunity! The fair is based on Cookridge Street which is right next to the market, therefore it isn’t even far for you to walk, and you could even grab some food and a drink after if you aren’t feeling too dizzy! It’s also a great opportunity to take family members who may be visiting you over the Christmas period!

Thors Tipi

Why not celebrate Christmas and have a few drinks in a Viking inspired tipi bar? Inside this tipi bar you will find amazing food, mulled wine and cider, prosecco and yummy hot chocolate, alongside cosy fairy lights and log fires! Right next to the tipi there is also a large Ferris wheel!

Christmas themed Otley Run

The Otley Run is the largest pub crawl in the UK, and it’s based right here in the student areas of Leeds. Why not celebrate Christmas by taking part in a Christmas themed run? Get all of your friends together and dress up as something relevant to Christmas and have a few drinks, it is guaranteed to be a ball!

Leeds Hidden Christmas Market at Kirkstall Abbey

This attraction is a 5 hour theatrical adventure with a twisted turn, with GRIMM FAIRYTALES guiding you through the magical Kirkstall Abbey. If you are looking for something different and something exciting and perhaps less traditional, then this is the place to be! It’s filled with amazing performances, live music, yummy food, Christmas drinks served from a fairy-tale themed bar, and craft workshops! This begins on the 14th of December up until the 21nd between 6pm – 11pm.

Christmas Shopping

If you’re looking to spoil friends, family, boyfriends/girlfriends this Christmas, then living in Leeds is definitely a bonus for you (and them!). Whether it’s searching for the perfect gift in stunning buildings, luxury shops or boutique stores, shopping for your loved ones in this magical city will certainly get you in the Christmas spirit! There are a range of different shops and centres, with the most modern and luxury being Victoria Gate. This is home to the more luxury brands if you are feeling very generous. Next to Victoria Gate you will find Victoria Quarter, filled with Christmas décor and wonderful shops. For more choice, Trinity Centre is just across Briggate with plenty more to choose from! Wherever you go in Leeds, you are guaranteed to find the perfect gift and feel super Christmassy!
